Leaders of Leaders
By Christine Cole
Millions of people are intuitively drawn to horses. Horses are beautiful, magnetic, living in the moment, playful and joyous for no other reason than it feels good. Although we may have many reasons why we do what we do, all reasons have at their foundation the fact that we think in the doing we will feel better. Where humans are often motivated to move away from something that is not wanted, the horse is naturally inspired to go towards what he wants. Herein lies the difference between someone who is motivational and someone who is inspirational, a leader of leaders.
Horses patiently challenge us to allow inspiration because we cannot be part of the herd if we are motivated. Imagine joining a flock of birds and then trying to keep up by avoiding being bumped. Motivation, or the act of moving away from what is not wanted, lacks optimum creativity and joy. Horses role model the way one can be present moment-to-moment, trusting inspiration is at the center of well-being. When we are inspired we move in perfect cadence with all that is around us. That is the only way to join and potentially lead the flock, the herd, a family or a team.
Horses offer us an opportunity to shine our light through that of another who holds well-being front and center. It is a chance to experience refraction of perception, allowing a small shift to illuminate our choices. Will it be beauty we choose or the ordinary and the normal? Horses exemplify how when observed wholly in the moment, all things are beautiful.
